Seasonal allergies and atopy are common disorders where individuals have a hyper-immune response to specific allergens, noticeably an increased IgE response with histamine release. This produces an inflammatory state with itchiness, rashes, increased mucous secretion and broncho-constriction. This may either affect the skin in the form of eczema or urticarial reactions, the upper-respiratory tract in the form of rhinitis or sinusitis, or the lower respiratory tract in the form of asthma. Often these allergens are found in food or food additives, environmental such as pollen and chemical allergens from cleaning products. Often no allergen is found.
